Tears of the Kingdom: 10 Hidden Shrines You Missed
With a staggering 152 Shrines scattered across the vast world of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, completing your map is no easy feat. While some shrines sit proudly in the open, Nintendo hidden-object designers went to town concealing others behind breakable rocks, inside twisting caves, at the bottom of wells, or tucked away on far-flung sky islands.
If your Shrine Sensor is going crazy but you see absolutely nothing on the horizon, you've likely stumbled upon one of these subterranean or celestial mysteries. Here are 10 of the most easily missed, hidden shrines in Tears of the Kingdom and exactly how to find them.
1. Kyokugon Shrine (Alignment of the Circles)
- Region: Great Plateau / Central Hyrule
- Why you missed it: It's located completely underground. While exploring the northern edge of the Great Plateau, your sensor will beep relentlessly, but the surface is totally empty.
- How to find it: Head to the base of the Great Plateau's northern cliffside. Near where Addison is holding up a sign, you'll find the entrance to Great Plateau Foothill Cave blocked by red, breakable rocks. Blast through multiple layers of rock walls and defeat the Horriblins inside to find the shrine tucked away in a massive cavern.
2. Chichim Shrine (Rauru's Blessing)
- Region: Gerudo Desert
- Why you missed it: It is buried underneath a dangerous quicksand pit.
- How to find it: Head to the Palu Wasteland in the Gerudo Desert. Look for a large, swirling sinkhole (quicksand pit) and intentionally let yourself get sucked in. You'll plunge into the Ancient Prison Ruins. You must navigate this underground, trap-filled dungeon, using Ultrahand to pull hidden levers and Ascend to reach the upper chambers, where the shrine waits.
3. Jogou Shrine (Rauru's Blessing)
- Region: Lanayru Promenade
- Why you missed it: It lies inside a massive, multi-entrance cave hidden underneath the Lanayru Road East.
- How to find it: Head to the waterway beneath the Lanayru Road - East Gate. Glide down to find a large opening marked by luminous ore—this is the entrance to the Lanayru Road East Cave. Fight past a Boss Bokoblin cohort and look for a destructible rock wall on the back of the circular water island. Destroy it and swim through to reach the shrine.
4. Tadarok Shrine (Fire and Water)
- Region: Great Plateau (River of the Dead)
- Why you missed it: It is physically hidden behind a roaring, freezing waterfall.
- How to find it: Climb up the snowy peaks of Mount Hylia on the Great Plateau. Look down at the frozen River of the Dead and locate the waterfall feeding into it. Jump and paraglide directly through the waterfall to discover the River of the Dead Waterfall Cave. Defeat the Like Like inside to access the shrine.
5. Susub Shrine (Rauru's Blessing)
- Region: West Necluda (Deya Village Ruins)
- Why you missed it: There's no cave entrance nearby. It is hidden at the bottom of a well.
- How to find it: Travel to the swampy, flooded Deya Village Ruins. Locate the Deya Village Ruins East Well (you'll need to blow up a stone seal blocking the top). Drop down into the watery cavern, climb the high stone ledge to your left, and the shrine is yours.
6. Wao-os Shrine (Lever Power)
- Region: Hebra Mountains
- Why you missed it: Tucked on a dark, narrow ledge of a steep canyon cliffside.
- How to find it: Head to the area west of Lake Totori (near Rito Village). Climb the cliffs of Passer Hill and look for a dark, hidden ledge facing the water. Enter the West Lake Totori Cave. This cave houses a mini-quest where you must offer a giant white bird's feather (or follow the local questline) to unlock the inner chamber.
7. Nouda Shrine (Proving Grounds: Infiltration)
- Region: Hebra Mountains (Kopeeki Drifts)
- Why you missed it: Hidden deep within a freezing cave system, protected by a sub-zero lake that instantly drains your health.
- How to find it: Navigate to the Kopeeki Drifts, a deep canyon south of the South Tabantha Snowfield. Locate the Kopeeki Drifts Cave entrance on the south wall of the canyon. Inside, you'll reach a giant, freezing pool of water. Use ice-producing tools (like throwing Ice Fruit or using a white Chuchu jelly) to forge an ice bridge across the water to reach the beach where the shrine rests.
8. Rotafu-Um Shrine (Rauru's Blessing)
- Region: Hebra Mountains Northwest
- Why you missed it: It requires finding a hidden cave, diving into a deep frozen pond, and solving a sneaky "fishing" puzzle.
- How to find it: Enter the Hebra Mountains Northwest Cave. Deep inside, you'll find the shrine base missing its crystal. Look into the deep, freezing pool of water to spot the green crystal sitting at the bottom. Shoot down the massive icicles hanging from the ceiling, fuse them together with Ultrahand to create a long pole, attach it to the crystal, and pull it out of the drink.
9. Iun-Orok Shrine (The Right Roll)
- Region: Tabantha Frontier
- Why you missed it: Tucked inside a highly obscure canyon-floor cave system.
- How to find it: Travel to the deep canyon floor west of the Tabantha Frontier. Drop into the canyon and enter Tanagar Canyon East Cave. You'll need to bring plenty of rock-fused weapons or Bomb Flowers, as you have to smash through a massive maze of breakable stone walls to reach the cavern containing the shrine.
10. Yansamin Shrine (Proving Grounds: Low Gravity)
- Region: East Necluda Sky (Zonaite Forge Island)
- Why you missed it: It's located high up in the Sky Islands inside a giant, hollowed-out mechanical cylinder.
- How to find it: Equip Zora Armor. Head to the Necluda region and wait for it to rain so you can swim up the massive waterfall stretching from the ground to the sky islands. Rocket your way over to Zonaite Forge Island. Activate the island's wind fans, ride the updrafts to the very top, and dive straight down the central chimney while dodging a vertical maze of red security lasers. At the bottom, you'll splash into a hidden reservoir containing the shrine.
Conclusion
Finding every last shrine in Tears of the Kingdom is a testament to your exploration skills. If you are struggling to find the final few, remember the game's ultimate map-building secret: every Lightroot in the Depths sits directly underneath a Shrine of Light on the Surface.
